An Eat, Pray, Love Moment
Ubud, Bali is where Elizabeth Gilbert traveled in all her hedonistic pursuits. I get it now.
Loka Pala is a small collection of five villas in the Nyuh Kuning district of Ubud. Just south of the Sacred Monkey Forest. Across the street from the Bumi Sehat birthing clinic. Its founder, Robin Lim, won the CNN Heros award last year. GREAT for Bumi Sehat. Even better for more and my knowledge of healthy birthing practices--which have expanded, unintentionally, a whole bunch since I've been here.

Sue Useem you are my CNN Hero. Thank you for letting me stay here.

Loka Pala, the walk up to the pool.

I spent a good amount of time here.

Sacred Monkey Forest
I honestly did not know fear until I tried to walk through this place at night next to a man carrying 12 mini bananas in his backpack.
|
Just taking a lil walk through the monkey forest woods! |
|
The Sacredest Monkey! Look at the face!
But seriously just look and don't even think about touching. Those things have rabies.
Around Town
Carolyn kept saying she couldn't get a visual, so this is my attempt to give her one.

Iced Latte at Kafe. I went back here twice, but never stopped being bitter that they shut off the internet at noon. Seriously, why? Clear Cafe and Bali Budha are also big hits with every white person in town. |
|
Ubud, street side. Doesn't begin to cover the traffic in this place but does pay nice homage to the prevalence of motorbikes and mopeds in town. I rented my first one for a full day my 5th day in and only almost got in an accident twice! Rode like the wind. |
|
Sitting on the back of my rented moped. Taking a picture of some Balinese buildings in the background. Can't tell you which ones they were per se, but pretty standard back drop never the less.
Yoga Barn
The best place I've ever practiced yoga. It is so obvious why people come from all over the world to dedicate months of their lives to training and improving here. Not sure how I'll ever go back to in-door studios again. Every time I went I sat in the same spot and stared at the same scene. Hands down my favorite part of my time in Ubud.
As if I could get any more cliche.
